The Gander International Airport Authority says 2009 was its sixth consecutive year of profit. The airport's financial performance review reports $6.52-million in revenue. President and CEO Gary Vey says the airport's performance was a significant achievement, given that 2009 was a challenging year for the aviation industry. He says passenger traffic was down by four per cent, but was significantly better than the Atlantic Canadian average. Vey says cost control remains central to the authority's strategic direction, noting the airport made what he called "tough but necessary" decisions to restructure its workforce and shaved over $1-million from the airport's operating costs.
